Other legal AI companies like LexisNexis cost $200/month, and are not open to the public (individuals or businesses.) As far as we know, Caseway is the only legal research software that is completely open to the public.
Caseway also invests a ton of money and time into making it’s AI extremely accurate. As of March 2025, they are building their own LLM model, in partnership with a major Canadian university. This is made possible given the amount of government grants that Caseway receives, the skills that the University PHDs offer, and by using open source code LLMs to build off of.
As of March 2025, lawyers can pick their jurisdiction, and Caseway will only consider court decisions in that jurisdiction(for example, Ontario or California.)

It’s also important to note that with any AI, everyone should always double-check the results. Every AI has the potential to hallucinate.
What I like about Caseway is that it makes it’s sources easy to evaluate.
Caseway could do a better job of explaining how its AI works to minimize the learning curve for new users.

I don’t think AI will replace lawyers. But lawyers who use AI will replace those that do for sure.
I understand Caseway is expanding soon into California, and that’s it’s following jurisdiction. Its CEO, Al Vigier, has said that the company plans to focus less on the Canadian market and more on the States.
