I did part one responding to the whole “stop Clearway Law” thing, but the situation and our products have developed since then, so I wanted to provide an update and respond to the commonly searched terms on Google. Those search terms are below: If you want to see the article I wrote on the Clearway controversy, you can follow the link. I added a lot of screenshots of the criticism there so I won’t bother to include them here. I will focus on what wasn’t covered in the other article. What is Clearway Law? Clearway is an innovative online platform…
Power imbalances in relationships can have a significant impact on the well-being of both partners. While power imbalances can take many forms, financial imbalances are a particularly common issue. When one partner has significantly more financial resources than the other, it can create a power dynamic that can be difficult to navigate. At the root of this issue is the fact that money is often tied to other forms of power in our society. Those with money have access to resources that those without money do not, which can create an unequal playing field in many areas of life. This…
Mental distress is a term used to describe a range of emotional and psychological symptoms that can arise as a result of traumatic or stressful experiences. Historically, mental distress was not something that could be easily quantified or compensated for in a legal sense. However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the impact that mental distress can have on individuals and society as a whole. This has led to changes in the law to better accommodate those who have experienced mental distress. One of the most significant changes has been the recognition of mental distress as…
Abusive relationships don’t start with someone throwing punches or screaming threats. More often than not, they start with love bombing—constant affection, attention, and promises that feel too good to be true. And then, little by little, things change. It’s time we all take a stand against abusive relationships. Maybe your partner starts making comments about your friends being a bad influence. Suddenly, you’re spending less time with them. They get annoyed when you don’t text back fast enough. A harmless disagreement turns into them saying “Why do you always make me do this?” after they explode in anger. And somehow,…
You’re not alone if you’ve ever grabbed a tea from Tim Hortons and felt like it was near boiling point. But for one Ontario woman, the consequences were far worse than a burned tongue. Jackie Lansing and her family are suing Tim Hortons for half a million dollars. She suffered severe burns from a cup of boiling hot tea in May 2022. According to court documents, Lansing had a medium black tea with two splashes of milk at a Tim Hortons drive-thru. She claims the moment she picked up the cup, it collapsed in her hand. The tea spilled all…
The legal world is full of tradition, slow-moving courts, and a deep resistance to change. Fax machines are still kicking. Some judges refuse to check their email. Meanwhile, law firms are drowning in case law, trying to parse through decades of decisions to craft persuasive arguments. This is exactly where artificial intelligence is making waves. AI is the future of case briefing, and the firms that embrace it now will dominate the industry in the next decade. AI Is the Future—Because Time Is Money Ask any lawyer what takes the most time, and case research will be high on the…
The issue of whether or not courts discriminate against men is a complex and controversial one. While there is evidence to suggest that men may face bias in some cases, there are also many factors at play that can impact how court cases are decided. One area where men may face discrimination in the courts is in family law cases. In some cases, fathers may feel that the court system is biased against them when it comes to custody or child support arrangements. There have been instances where courts have given preference to mothers in custody disputes, even in cases…
Sexual infliction of mental suffering is a form of abuse that can have devastating and long-lasting effects on victims. It is a particularly insidious form of abuse because it is often not recognized as such, and victims may feel ashamed or embarrassed to speak out about their experiences. Sexual infliction of mental suffering can take many different forms, but at its core, it involves the use of sexual acts or behaviour to control, manipulate, or harm another person. This may include non-consensual sexual acts, sexual harassment or intimidation, or other forms of sexual behaviour that are intended to cause harm…
A lawyer in Vancouver, Rene Gantzert, has been found to have committed professional misconduct by the Law Society of British Columbia. He misappropriated $62,521 from a client’s trust fund between December 2018 and July 2019. The money was from a personal injury claim settlement of $481,291, and while some parties were paid off, not all the money went to the intended recipients. Gantzert gave up his license to practice law in July 2020 and failed to cooperate with the Law Society’s investigation. His lack of cooperation between May and December 2021 was found to constitute professional misconduct. Misappropriation of trust…
