Trade secret theft has dramatically increased



Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in trade secret theft and misappropriation of confidential business information throughout North America, writes Toronto intellectual property and trademark lawyer John Simpson in a recent employment law firm newsletter.  Read Whitten & Lublin Newsletter  

In the contributed article, Simpson, principal of Shift Law, writes the increase has been attributed to increased employee mobility, downsizing and layoffs.

“Departing employees may walk away with proprietary information on termination or misappropriate it in anticipation of being terminated to enhance their value to other prospective employers or to compete with their former employer,” he writes. “Whatever the reason, it is more important than ever for employers to identify and protect their confidential business information.”
