Brauti says teacher on trial was too trusting of obsessed boy
Toronto criminal lawyer Peter Brauti says a teacher accused of sexually assaulting a teenager was too trusting of the obsessed boy who blamed her as insurance against getting into trouble after she rebuffed his advances. Read Toronto Star
“Other people might say she should have seen the warning signs,” Brauti told the judge in his closing arguments. “But it doesn’t lead to the conclusion that she had a sexual relationship with this individual.”
His client, Mary Gowans, 43, has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual interference and sexual assault of her former French class student when he was 15 in 2009-2010.
