Trudeau will enter race this summer: Richler

  • Opinion

Expect to hear a summertime announcement from Justin Trudeau throwing his hat in the ring for the Liberal leadership, predicts Toronto lawyer Jeremy Richler, who keeps a sharp eye on the political scene in Ottawa.

Richler tells CJAD AM 800 that while the House takes a break, the “backdoor machinations and the barbecue circuit are in full gear. And I think this year for the Liberal party it’s going to be a very exciting season.”

Richler forecasts  an “announcement from Justin Trudeau at some point in the summer. …  I’m 70-30,” that Trudeau will jump into the race.

Richler says he thinks Trudeau is “very ambivalent” and does in fact want to spend time with his children, but at the same time “he’s been very open about the fact that he wanted to make a difference and I think leadership has never been too far from his mind.”

Richler also discusses the U.S. election and why Canadian pop stars are well represented on the international charts.
