‘Love’ doesn’t change anything: Wright

Toronto lawyer Michael Wright, writes in a Focus Section piece for Lawyers Weekly, that Love v. Acuity Investment Management Inc., (2011) ONCA 130. is, by all appearances, a victory for the plaintiff.

But, “Love doesn’t change anything. It is being used by employer counsel to prop up an argument that they have consistently lost and yet never seem to tire of making. Depriving employees of equity grants during their notice period is no different than refusing to compensate them for their base salary: it is all compensation; it just comes in different forms,” says Wright, co-managing partner at Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre & Cornish LLP.
